Souvenirs of the Heart: Choosing Christmas Ornaments Over Things During Vacation

Vacations, for many of us, are an escape from the routines of daily life—a chance to explore new places, savor unique experiences, and create lasting memories. As someone who finds joy in the journey, we’ve discovered a meaningful way to commemorate our travels: by swapping conventional souvenirs for Christmas ornaments. It's not just a decoration for the tree; it's a tangible reminder of the beautiful places we've been to and the incredible moments we've shared.

In a world inundated with "things," there's a certain magic in selecting a Christmas ornament as a memento of your adventures. These small, often intricately designed pieces serve as visual bookmarks, allowing you to revisit the sights, sounds, and emotions of your vacation each holiday season.

This year we decided to really focus on these ornaments and put two white trees on our kitchen island so we can spotlight our trips. As a person that isn’t a huge décor person, I’m finding myself checking out these ornaments while I eat breakfast each morning. From the charming cobblestone streets of European villages to the sun-kissed beaches of Destin, each ornament transports me back to the places I was able to experience with my husband and daughters. Time Scott and I will never get back as our daughters transition to adulthood.

So, the next time you're on vacation, consider bypassing the trinket shops and opt for a Christmas ornament instead. Your tree will become a testament to a life well-traveled, and every ornament will whisper tales of adventure and discovery, creating a holiday tradition that transcends time and space.
